We all know there are “expat” hotspots in Mexico where a lot of foreigners tend to gravitate to. Mostly because there is alreaduy an established community of other English-speakers and bevause these cities tend to be charming.
The expat hotspots exist in the central highlands of Mexico and on the coastal cities. But they usually come with a price tag. The rentals in these places tend to be higher by Mexican standards. And events, food, or even household goods also tend to be more expensive in those areas simply because there are dollars in that economy.
And while these expat hotspots are a GREAT way to get introduced to living in Mexico, I also want to show you that there is sooo much more to Mexico that also doesn’t get mentioned.
One of those cities is Campeche
Campeche Is Affordable, Friendly, and Charming!
Campeche is the capital of the state of Campeche.
And although it isn’t very popular with expats moving to Mexico, it should be! It offers affordable living, warm and sunny weather, friendly people, and a diverse and rich culture.

Hi Mariana. THANK YOU so much for putting together this post and the video. I have lived in Merida a couple of times and when I asked about places in Mexico that weren’t inundated with gringoes (yet), someone recommended Campeche and your material practically sold me on it 🙂
If I plan to stay for a month in January to see if I like it, do you recommend I book the whole month through Airbnb or should I get there and then start looking for a place through local contacts?
Thanks again for your helpful information!

Hola Mariana,
Gracias!!

Hi,
Could you suggest how to find a person in Campeche that we met 30 years ago and would like to reconnect with?
